What Is a Mini Muffin Pan?
A mini muffin pan is a rigid metal or flexible silicone pan with shallow cups roughly 2 inches (5 cm) wide and about 1 inch (2.5 cm) deep. Each cup holds around 2 tablespoons of batter. It is used for mini muffins, mini cupcakes, egg bites, and small savoury bakes.
A mini muffin pan (also called a mini muffin tin or mini cupcake pan) is a single pan with multiple small wells moulded or pressed into it. You fill each well with batter, bake, and turn out a batch of identical bite-sized muffins.

- Egg bites and frittata bites
- Bite-sized quiches, brownie bites, and cheesecake bites
- Portioned snacks such as granola cups or pizza bites
How it differs from a standard muffin pan
The cavities are much smaller — about one-third to one-quarter of the volume of a standard muffin cup. That changes baking time, batter quantity, and how quickly the edges set. See mini muffin pan vs regular muffin pan.
Materials
Most mini muffin pans are aluminized steel, uncoated aluminum, nonstick-coated steel, or food-grade silicone. Each behaves differently — metal vs silicone covers the trade-offs.
Frequently asked questions
- Is a mini muffin pan the same as a mini cupcake pan?
- Yes. The pans are identical; the name just follows what you bake in them. Mini cupcake liners and mini muffin liners are also the same size.
- What can I use if I do not have a mini muffin pan?
- You can bake the batter in a standard muffin pan (fewer, larger muffins, longer bake) or as a loaf or square pan. Foil mini liners on a baking sheet work for small batches but spread more than a pan.
